Terms of Service

Last updated: September 15, 2026

These terms cover both roles on StoryHive: the organizer who creates an event and invites people to it, and each contributor who records or uploads an answer.

1. Agreement to these terms

By creating an event, joining an event as a contributor, or otherwise using StoryHive, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. StoryHive is operated by [Owner/lawyer: legal entity name not yet determined].

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be able to form a binding agreement to create an organizer account. Organizer accounts sign in with Google (or, on some deployments, a simplified development sign-in). Contributors don't need an account — a valid invite link plus the name and email they provide when joining is enough. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in access secure and for activity that happens under your account.

3. Organizer responsibilities

As the organizer, you choose who to invite, what questions to ask, and — for a memorial or any event about someone else — whether it's appropriate to do so. You represent that you have the right to invite each contributor and to collect and use their recorded answers to make and share a film for the occasion you created the event for. You're responsible for the honoree information, questions, intro video, and any music you upload to your event.

4. Contributor content license

When you record or upload a video, photo, or voice answer as a contributor, you keep ownership of it. You grant StoryHive and the event's organizer a limited license to store, process, edit, and combine your submission with other contributors' answers solely to produce and deliver the film for that event (and, if the organizer chooses, to share that film with the people they invite it to). This license doesn't let StoryHive use your submission for advertising, or let the organizer use it for any purpose unrelated to that event's film, without your separate permission.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use StoryHive to:

  • Upload or submit content you don't have the rights to share, or content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights.
  • Upload or submit content that's illegal, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or that endangers or exploits a minor.
  • Impersonate another person, or invite or record someone without a legitimate basis for including them in the event.
  • Attempt to access another organizer's or contributor's account, event, or media.
  • Interfere with, overload, or attempt to bypass rate limits, storage limits, or security controls on the service.
  • Use the service to build a competing product by scraping or reverse-engineering it.

7. Music

StoryHive's built-in music tracks are licensed for use in films made on the platform, credited on our credits page. If you upload your own music track for your event (where that feature is enabled), you confirm that you own it or have the rights needed to use it in your film, and you agree to indemnify and hold StoryHive harmless from any claim arising from music you upload. A shared or published film that uses music without proper rights may still be muted, have its audio claimed, or be taken down by a platform you share it on or by a rights holder, regardless of what StoryHive allowed at upload time.

8. Copyright / DMCA takedown process

If you believe content on StoryHive infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent that includes: (1) your signature (physical or electronic); (2) a description of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed; (3) the location of the allegedly infringing material on StoryHive (an event link, if you have one); (4) your contact information; (5) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized; and (6) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and you're authorized to act for the copyright owner.

Send notices to [email protected]. Designated agent: [Owner/lawyer: designated DMCA agent not yet registered with the U.S. Copyright Office]

Counter-notice. If material you submitted was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice with: (1) your signature; (2) identification of the removed material and where it appeared before removal; (3) a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake; (4) your contact information; and (5) a statement consenting to the jurisdiction described in this policy. We'll forward a valid counter-notice to the original complaining party, and may restore the material unless they pursue further action.

[Owner/lawyer: a real DMCA agent needs to be registered with the U.S. Copyright Office (copyright.gov/dmca-directory, roughly $6, renew every 3 years) before this process satisfies the DMCA safe harbor — right now the agent line above is a placeholder.]

9. Repeat infringer policy

We will terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the account of an organizer who is the subject of repeated, valid copyright infringement notices.

10. Payments and refunds

Pricing is calculated per event at the time you compile your film, based on factors like the number of contributors, film length, and resolution — never a flat, hardcoded number quoted in advance. You pay only when you compile your film, not to set up an event or invite contributors.

[Owner/lawyer: a specific refund policy (for example: a failed or unwatchable compile, or a cancellation before compiling starts) hasn't been decided yet.]

11. Film availability window

A compiled film is available to download for 30 days after it's finished. After that window, the film file is removed from storage. Download your film before the window closes.

12. Service provided “as is”

StoryHive is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, StoryHive and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, recordings, or a compiled film, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid StoryHive for the event giving rise to the claim.

[Owner/lawyer: the exact liability cap, and whether any exceptions apply, needs a lawyer's review for enforceability in the jurisdictions StoryHive operates in.]

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StoryHive and its operators from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: your content (including music you upload); your use of the service in violation of these terms; or your violation of another person's rights, including a contributor's privacy or a copyright holder's rights.

15. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the service for a violation of these terms, including the acceptable-use and repeat-infringer sections above. You may stop using the service, and an organizer may delete their own events, at any time. An organizer-deleted event is not accepting new responses immediately and is permanently purged after a grace period, as described in our Privacy Policy.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where practical, let organizers know by email. Continuing to use StoryHive after a change means you accept the updated terms.
